Created as a manga in 1991, Sailor Moon is a magical-girl series in which five (and then more) girls transform into super powered magical girls with access to magic to triumph over evil and the forces of Chaos. Sailor Moon was a princess who lived 1,000 years ago prior to the story in which she was killed defying her laws and falling in love with an Earth Prince named Endymion. When she and her court, full of other planetary princesses died, her mother, Queen Selenity (or Serenity but for confusion clarification it's Selenity for our game) sent her daughter and her entire court into the future where she and the others were reborn to live their lives in peace. Only the great evil that destroyed the Moon Kingdom went forward with the moon princess's court and she, and her friends had to rise up to protect their new home.
Sailor Moon is currently experiencing a reboot as "Sailor Moon Crystal" which follows the manga plotline of the first season. There was another, original Anime, created concurrently with the Manga, however often times the writers of the show often went a completely different direction with the characterization and plot of the manga. There are also stage shows and musicals, as well as a live action drama that went a bit darker in theme then the show or the manga. There are multitudes of ways (legal and illegal) to read the origin works and watch the tv shows for yourself. (Or join us in squealing every 2 weeks for new episodes of Sailor Moon Crystal!)
Sailor Moon, and her friends, were a beacon of light and hope and friendship. They were all 'human' in that each one of them displayed flaws and tended to have their own ways about them. There were men in their lives too, though most of the men took a side seat in the anime in the Manga Endymion and his Generals played roles through out the series as equal in power and skill to their magical girl counter parts. This is especially true of the live action and the musicals (where Naoko Takeuchi the creator of Sailor Moon) had a lot more input. (That live action though? Dark. Very Dark. Princess Moon is NOT the same as Usagi!)
For our game we are encouraging players to bring in previous sailor moon characters from other RPGs that may have ended (Cough) prematurely and characters never reached their full potential. If you don't have much knowledge of Sailor Moon it's okay to play in our game and just ask more questions. However it's not an excuse for you to throw the "base" of the game right out a window.
