Apollo
Nicknames: Mean Kitty
Gender: male
Apparent Age: looks about 3-5 years as a cat and maybe early-mid 20s as a person
Chosen Animal Form: orange Abyssinian cat
What “Era” do they hail from? Crystal
Hobbies: Playing strategy games like chess and Risk (so he can pretend to take over the world! Muahahaha!), taking cat naps, being petted and scritchied, spending time with Helios, practicing Tai Chi Chuan
Bad Habits: unpleasant, perfectionist, recreational catnip use
Personality: Apollo is not a very pleasant guy to be around. He's a total perfectionist both about himself and others. He doesn't stand for any laziness or stupidity; you're going to be there on time, get your job done without complaints and you're going to do it right, or else you're going to do it over and over again until you do get it right. He rarely holds his tongue when it comes to criticism and even more rarely will he ever say something just to be polite or spare somebody's feelings. He likes doing things his own way and doesn't take orders from or justify himself to anyone besides Helios... and sometimes the lunar royal family, but that's more to please Helios than out of any real respect for them. He doesn't really care if anyone likes him or not- he spent his whole life sheltered away in Elysian, so he's not used to being around people anyway. In fact, you could argue that the reason why he's so unpleasant is because he's not used to being out in society and his social skills aren't very developed.
Sadness is a more common emotion for Apollo than you might think. He just doesn't show it in front of anyone. When he gets sad he'll sometimes cry alone where nobody else can see, but crying makes him feel weak, which makes him angry with himself, so he tries not to do it. For the most part he'll just go off by himself and mope when he's sad.
Apollo was a happy kitten who loved to play, but happiness has become rare for him in adulthood, especially since his capture and torture by the Dead Moon Circus. He still enjoys naps and catnip, and spending time with Helios, of course. He likes a good scratch behind the ears, but that's a private pleasure most people don't know about. He actually likes to play strategy games like chess or Risk but most people don't know about that, either. As for what makes him angry... well, he's a pretty grumpy kitty to begin with, but if you really want to see him angry, harm an innocent, especially an animal or a child. That's what makes him angrier than anything else you could ever say or do.
Helios is about the only person he's consistently nice to, and there's a reason for that; he's known the guy literally all his life. If you asked him, he'd probably just say he's used to Helios after all that time, or maybe grudgingly admit they're friends, but really there's more to it than that. Apollo has a major crush on his friend, but has never told him so- how could he, if he's never really been able to admit it to himself? He just knows he gets a tingly feeling inside whenever Helios holds or pets him, that he's happy whenever they have time alone together... and that it tears his little kitty heart out whenever he sees his friend with Usagi.
Appearance: His human self is a pretty average 5'10" and weighs around 145lbs, with an athletic build and long, slender limbs. His face is rectangular but fine-featured, with high cheekbones and a somewhat pointy chin. His skin has a light apricot tone that probably wouldn't be able to tan even if he tried. Despite being a cat, he's only moderately hairy in this form. His ears are maybe still a little large, but don't stick out a lot. His hair is the same red as his fur as a cat, and still tends to be unruly. It has a wavy texture, especially if left to grow a while, but is usually kept no more than a few inches long. He has a gold Earth symbol (a circle with a plus sign inside) in the middle of his forehead, though he can hide it with his hair if he needs or wants to. His eyes are an intense gold, with rounded pupils and topped with thick brows that have a natural high arch. His nose is long and straight, and in profile it has a steep slope and a pointed end. His lips are moderately full and he has a nice smile full of straight, white teeth, if he would bother to show it. Usually his expression is stern, or a scowl.
In both cat and human form he still bears the scars of torture he endured at the hands of the Dead Moon Circus. They're much less noticeable in cat form because of his fur, but if he twists and turns certain ways you can see the lines of scarred skin where the fur no longer grows. The scars are visible as pale, shiny areas on his skin in human form, but since they're mostly on his body you can't usually see them when he's wearing clothes. He hates when people ask about the scars because explaining them takes him right back to those days and experiences he'd rather not remember.
His usual clothes if in human form consists of a reddish brown nehru jacket with frog closures up the front and a matching pair of slacks. The collared shirt he wears underneath is a soft apricot shade that almost blends in with his skin. He wears dress shoes in a similar reddish brown leather to the suit, which are treaded at the bottom for better traction. If he had to wear something else it would probably still be on the formal side, like a suit and tie or at least a nice button-down shirt and sharply pressed slacks.
Family and Close Ties:
Helios is his creator, best friend and secret crush. The Elysian priest can visit people in their dreams, and can take on the form of a horned pegasus. His love interest, whom he's really been in love with since he hid in her dreams when she was a child (but he waited for her to grow up before they began dating- he's no pedo!), is the Small Lady Princess Serenity (Chibi Usa).
The Maenads are priestesses of Elysian who helped raise Apollo since kittenhood. They still treat him like a kitten even now, which has caused a little bitterness in him.
Crystal Tokyo's Royal Family, while he wouldn't call himself close to any of them, he does grant them a grudging respect for Helios' sake.
The Amazoness Quartet, well, after his experiences with the Dead Moon Circus he has no love for them at all. But Helios originally took him to Crystal Tokyo to be their guardian kitty, so he views them like children who need to be taught lessons and discipline.
Terra will probably end up being his charge in this game (at her mun's request). Since they haven't met yet I can't comment on their relationship at the time of this character sheet.
History:
Apollo wasn't born like other cats and he never really had any parents. He was created by Helios long ago as a companion. He did have a childhood- er, kittenhood- in which he spent most of his time playing and following Helios around like a parent. When Helios was too busy to care for him the Maenads (not the Dionysus groupie kind) kitten-sat, and though Apollo missed Helios when he was gone, the priestesses spoiled the kitten enough to take out a lot of the sting. Without a mother or father cat around to teach him, he developed a lot more human-like tendencies than cat ones, including a taste for human food instead of cat food or game, though he still has his natural hunting instincts as a cat. They just never got much of a workout outside of play back where he's from.
Once he was old enough, Apollo went with Helios on his trips to Earth and acted the part of a guardian cat who helped keep a lookout against trouble. This made him feel very big and important, even though in reality there wasn't much he could do if somebody bad did come along and attack. He didn't have any weapons or special powers that would let him fight off an enemy. All he could really do was send up a warning, which that was what he tried to do when the Dead Moon Circus arrived, but it was too little, too late. Their dream world was trashed, Apollo was abducted and Helios fled from his body, with his astral self escaping into humans' dreams. Apollo was held captive in a small cage and tortured for
Apollo was so busy with his own problems that at first he barely even noticed how strange his friend was acting... not that he would've known the signs of a man in love even if he had seen them, since he'd never been out in society enough to know much about those things. So it wasn't until Helios started openly fawning over the girl whose dreams he'd been hiding out in that he even knew what was going on. And also due to knowing so little about those things, he didn't even know why hearing that news upset him so much. In his own mind it was just that he was so used to having Helios around all the time- they were friends, not to mention that Apollo's purpose for even existing at all was to be Helios' companion. Of course he didn't like seeing him spending increasing amounts of time off on Earth with some girl! His reaction to that was very childish, that he started acting all passive-aggressive towards Helios and became even more withdrawn and moody than usual, like a sullen teenager. Then Helios left for Earth again and was gone for what felt like a really long time (ok, so it was like a week or two, but since when did cats have a good sense of time?), and Apollo became both very worried and afraid that the way he was acting had driven away his only friend. He kept wishing Helios would come back and they could be together again like they used to be, and swore he would do anything if that could happen. Never again would he take his friend for granted, or pull any of that passive-aggressive shit he was doing- really! Eventually his wish came true and Helios was back, but not to stay- he came to pick Apollo up and take him to Earth, because he said he had an important job to ask. Well, of course he agreed even before he knew what was being asked... and of course he immediately regretted that he'd agreed as soon as he found out what his friend was really asking. He was supposed to go to Earth and act as advisor to four girls who used to work for the Dead Moon Circus, the people who had tortured and imprisoned him. Immediately his answer changed to not just "no", but "oh HELL no", and it took quite a bit of sweet-talking and ego-stroking before Helios was able to talk Apollo into accepting such a mission.
He doesn't remember dying, and will be very surprised to hear that he did. He would like to know the hows and whys of his death, but unless/until he knows he'll just assume it was something the Amazonesses did wrong that caused it (those incompetent fools).
The Other Me
Planetary Ties: Earth
Planet Affiliation: Guardian Animal
Alias: none
Animal Description: His usual form is of an adult Abyssinian cat about 18" long (besides the tail, which is around a foot long in itself) and about 10" high, and weighing in at about 10 lbs. He has orange ticked fur that's darkest from the top of his head, along his back and at the tip of his tail, while there's a little white under his chin and on his belly. His body is slender and athletic, with long limbs and a slim tail. He has big, almond-shaped golden eyes with slit pupils and large, erect ears. Long white whiskers stick out either side of his muzzle. The fur at the top of his head is unruly and likes to stand up even though in his grooming he tries to smooth it down. The only other conspicuous thing about him is a gold Earth symbol on his forehead.
As a cat he wears nothing except sometimes a collar which has the look of snakeskin and a golden lyre-shaped tag hanging from it which has a detailed engraving of the instrument on front and his name engraved on the back in fancy lettering. Even though he usually finds collars too restricting and doesn't wear them much, he likes this one because it was a gift from Helios.
Other Important Information: Wind and Fire Wheels, a traditional Chinese bladed weapon wielded in pairs that's about 15" across and circular in shape, with a padded handle with a guard and several flame-shaped blades around the outside edge, which give it a sun-like appearance. The bladed rings can be used to stab, slash, parry or disarm an opponent. Of course he can only do martial arts and use weapons if he's in human form. The weapons store in hammerspace when he's not using them.
