Alright so...
First, I got whacked over the head with this really nasty cold/flu thing...
Second, work's been going through "Changes" again... We lost one guy to a firing and then another went to the hospital- meaning we aren't just short handed, we're still in the middle of training up people. >.> And I just was finishing up my training for a new thing this week.
Third, School. I finished the last of my paperwork on Friday for my last college class for my masters. Yup. No more excuses "I had to do homework" - it no longer applies!
---
I do most of my posting at work- where I spend my weekdays. When I get home I have Mommy duties (my son's 13 this week) and I have two aged parents, one of whom is disabled. Often that means if I am going to get up to my computer when I get home it's like 8 or 9... That is also when I can connect and bug the other staffies for questions n answers n stuff.
Yeah. It's been slow. I'm sorry It wasn't my intention to drag down the game.
So This week we're still a little problematic at work, but I will be able to focus nightly efforts toward keeping the game going- up until April 1st as our scheduled "end" date.
The staff has been debating between a golden era setting and a modern day setting. Golden era being the one that some of us are the most curious about and then the modern because it might be easier to get people into game.
There has also been a little scuttlebutt about the ooc land about characters who feel "old" and "Deserve their rest/happiness".
So here's my "response" to that after many weeks of thinking.
We are in a bubble. In this timeless place there is many realities that are combining- and potentially can split off again if people do not want to play their characters anymore.
Let me be clear.
No one is forcing anyone else to play a specific character. You can rescope, rechange, rebalance, redance on a grave of someone previous if you want.
is this fight with chaos and good eternal and unchanging? Yes. The "fight" between "Good and Evil" are never-ending. Games would also be incredibly boring if all we did was sit around and drool on each other. So while characters can sit there n fight with "the heavens" because that's part of their problem and something they will have to deal with.... It shouldn't be something that gets thrown around out of character.
Players- ultimately- are who bring the boys to the yard. Or girls. or questionable gendered--... not me. I bring NPCs, I bring plot, setting, and adventure. Your characters however, both in movement and thought and purpose are YOURS.
If you feel you can't play your character anymore. Don't. Make someone new. If you don't feel like you can play in the theme or setting anymore, then say "I'm starting to get a bit burnt out on sailor moon because it feels like nothing's ever accomplished... as Mr Incredible said "It's like I'm the maid. I just cleaned up in here, can it stay clean for FIVE SECONDS!" "
And let me be EXTRA clear that this is an issue that has not just come up with ONE person but MANY.
Finally... Happy endings... mean different things to different characters. Your character could be soul mated to another, or at least, crushing hard- and in their "happy ever after" that gets written into their lives and history they go on to have the BEST HAPPY EVER AFTER EVER.
But other characters will go on in other realities, other places- without yours- because... that's what some characters do.
We pick up the pieces of our tattered little existence and get the hell back in the fight.
Why?
Because their stories aren't done yet. Yours might be, but ours aren't. Sometimes I find that my characters are too broken to go on.. and I gently wrap them in gauze put them in the peanut gallery and leave them there. Others, find new life elsewhere. You only get to control your own characters happiness. Other people may find their characters have more stories to be told. Other loves to find. Other places to be. That's their choice. Your choice is to go with them or retire.
That's the "offical" stand point at this point on the retirement of characters and their happily ever afters.
Like I said, at this point we have two schools of thought for the future, the Golden era or the Modern.
My personal preference is to tell the story of the golden millenium... a story untold thus far but hinted at.
Others perfer the modern because it's something more familiar in an unfamiliar world--- and promise is set up. Transplanting future people into the "modern" era from alternative realities wouldn't be 'all that hard' and it is probably the one we'll do because it's the one that most people in the staff, and from the sounds of the other chats, what people would play....
If you perfer one or the other, please say so now. I can want to run the Golden Mill. as much as i want, but lol if people won't post or play then it's of no point really...
